Explore the world of big data. In context of light. Both the light we see, and the light we do not see. Light from the Sun keeps us alive and in balance. We explore the Aldo Leopold meadow, equipped with state of the art, remote weather station, in Tyler State Park. We then perform numerical processing, to consider decision making, in the academic and vocational discipline of computer science.

Want to know what life is like as a print or online journalist? Spend a morning in the newsroom of Bucks County Community College’s award-winning student newspaper, the Centurion, and get a glimpse of what it’s like to work in the news business. Journalism Professor Tony Rogers and other guests will talk about what it takes to make it as a working journalist, and how Bucks’ journalism program has been the training ground for reporters and editors working at places like The Philadelphia Inquirer, Bucks County Courier Times and KYW News Radio. Participants will conduct interviews, write an actual news story and post it online. 

Crime Scene Investigation Experience TNEXP 0007 C01

This session is designed for students who may have interest in the criminal justice field. Students will be instructed in theory, and hands on. They will look at crime scenes and bring a suspect to trial. They will watch a video and answer questions from that video. Students will also determine if the suspect was guilty or not.

In this course, you’ll discover the exciting new world of 3D printing. Today, 3D printers make everything from chocolate candy to musical instruments to houses! The entire 3D printing process will be experienced from concept to the actual printing of objects. You’ll use programs like TinkerCad, Gravity Sketch, & MakerBot Desktop to design your own 3D object and print it to take home. Sign up for this camp to experience the science fiction future that’s happening today. You might even come up with the next million-dollar idea!

For rising seniors who are looking to get a head start on college, Bucks has a Summer Bridge Program that is designed to ease the transition to college by providing students with the academic skills and social resources needed to succeed in a college environment. Credit courses in Reading, English Composition, Math, College Success, and Guided Studies will be offered during Summer Session III 2023, which runs from July 5-August 11, 2023.   An orientation with the Summer Bridge Faculty and staff will take place on Monday, June 26, 2023 at the Newtown Campus.  Lunch-time programming and activities are included with the program, consisting of academic workshop, cultural experiences, and social and wellness activities.

Scholarships are available to rising seniors.  Please go to our Summer Bridge Program website for more information and to access the Summer Bridge Program application.  Email summerbridge@bucks.edu or call the Language & Literature office at 215-968-8150 with any questions.

Differentiated Perspectives aims to look at the real-life application of mathematical ideas and concepts in an exciting and engaging environment. In this one-day course we will introduce math in creative ways, addressing topic areas in trigonometry.  Students will be involved in activities both indoors and outdoors, which will help them see how math concepts are a part of daily life.  All necessary materials will be provided by us, so just bring your thinking cap and positive attitude to enjoy this fun-filled, interactive one day experience. 

The Magic of Augmented Reality TNEXP 0009 C01

One aspect of the metaverse is augmented reality or AR for short. With AR you add computer-created images to your view of the real world. This course will show you how to create an AR experience that you can share with friends, family or even the entire world through Instagram. The program that you’ll use is called Meta Spark Studio and it runs on both Macs and PCs. Let your creativity run free as you make fun and exciting AR experiences using your own artwork or free pieces that you download from the Internet.

Requirement: Participants will need to have a Facebook or Instagram account already set up for this course.

Biotech Innovation Experience RCHYC 6225 C01

Participants will work through the entrepreneurial process in small groups to solve a biotech problem of their interest in this four-day interactive experience. The program will introduce the key concepts of choice, recognizing opportunities, turning ideas into action, pursuing knowledge, creating community, building personal brand, and having grit. The experience incorporates key skills of teamwork, effective communication, leadership styles, and more! Workshops include team building, motivational speakers, entrepreneurs, and a field trip to a local biotech company.

Eating Across America: A Food Studies Experience TNEXP 0006 C01

Boston Baked Beans, Philly Cheesesteak, Buffalo Wings- Have you ever wondered why certain foods are named after cities or areas of the US?  In Eating Across America, we will dive into regional foods in the US. In the first half of the week, we will study the history of America’s different cuisines. In the second half, we will test your cooking (and eating) skills, when we get into the kitchen to make signature dishes from New England, the Mid-Atlantic, the Mid West, the South, and the South-West.
