Matthew Bielecki, M.A.
If you told Matt Bielecki at age ten, his love of the past would steer him into a career in archaeology, he would have been surprised! “I didn’t know much about the subject, except for the adventures of Indiana Jones, which I later learned has no relationship to what we do in the field!” Today, Matt is an archaeologist, historian, and educator. His love of archaeology developed as an undergraduate student at Penn State University and intensified as a graduate student at Monmouth University. “The past is filled with incredible stories, examining stone tools manufactured in New Jersey 12,000 years ago, understanding jasper trade routes throughout Lenapehoking or 18th century gunflint manufacture, I want to understand what drives human creativity.”
Matt is a member of the Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society and has presented at numerous archaeological conferences. “I believe education is so important to what we do.” This desire to merge education with archaeology led Matt to become the lead archaeologist at Stony Hill Archaeological Research, LLC a small consulting firm in Perkasie, Pennsylvania which not only conducts cultural resource management projects, but also focuses on the education of the next generation of archeologists.
In 2010, Matt began teaching at Bucks County Community College, where he is known for his lively hands-on presentations which include stories from the field and cover a variety of topics including: history, the nature of science and perspectives on our origins. Additionally, he teaches the Archaeological Technician Training Program, a comprehensive survey of archaeological methods, theory, and field practices.
