Our classes are English language immersion classes. This means that we do not teach English through translating words and phrases from their native language into English. We use our knowledge of the structure of employees’ native language(s) to help them to learn English. Using this model, we are able to instruct employees with many different native languages in the same class.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if my employees speak different native languages?
What if my employees do not speak any English?
We have worked with many groups of beginning English students. Our classes are customized to the current English proficiency level of the employees. We work with beginning English students to develop an understanding of basic English words and phrases. We then build off of this foundation with increasing complexity.
How do I know the current English proficiency level of my employees?
We provide an assessment of the employees at your company to determine their current oral and written English proficiency levels. We analyze the results of the assessment and provide a comprehensive report to the employer.
How many employees?
We offer one on one training as well as small group training. The maximum number of employees in a class is 12. The courses are designed to provide individualized support as well as frequent opportunities for participation and language practice. In order to provide this structure, we restrict the student-teacher ratio to 12:1.
Will they be fluent English speakers at the end of the program?
The employees’ English proficiency level at the end of the program depends on a number of factors. First, we assess the English proficiency level necessary for them to be successful at their job. Some employees only need to master English at an intermediate level to meet the requirements of their job. Second, we review the goals of the company so that we design a program that aligns with your vision. Are you interested in providing your employees with the English training necessary for them to advance at the company? Third, we must consider the available timeframe and their current English level. We are able to provide instruction in all levels of English. However, there are times when this is not realistic given the timeframe.
My employees work different shifts. Can they still take the classes?
Absolutely! We have provided classes to companies on many different schedules. We work with you to develop a schedule that works for you and your employees.
Who teaches the classes?
These classes are taught by certified ESL (English as a Second Language) instructors. Many of our instructors have extensive experience in teaching corporate and workplace English classes.
What can I expect from this program?
This program is the antithesis of the “one size fits all” model. We work with you to develop a program that meets the needs of your company. We design the program with the end in mind. The program begins with providing your employees the necessary and appropriate grammar and language skills given their current proficiency level. The classes integrate the vocabulary and phraseology used in your industry as well as terminology that is used in your specific company. The employees learn to complete necessary documentation and communicate with supervisors. One of the main goals of this program is for employees to feel comfortable and confident using the language. We want you to feel confident that your employees understand instructions and training materials and are comfortable asking for clarification when necessary.
How fast will they learn English?
The speed at which an individual acquires a language differs from person to person. While our classes are designed for you to see steady progress, there is no shortcut or trick to learning English. Many employees who begin learning English will go through a “silent period” where their comprehension of English is improving, but their production of English (speaking and writing) lags behind. Rest assured that their listening and reading skills are improving, even if their ability to respond is still limited. This is temporary and as they gain confidence in their ability to use the language, you will see their use of the language increase.
