Certified Recovery Specialist
Bucks County Community College in partnership with Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission, Inc. offers Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) and Certified Family Recovery Specialist (CFRS) training. Designed by the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB), the program meets the education requirements for certification in this specialty area in Pennsylvania.
The in person sessions are open to individuals with personal, lived recovery experience or have a history of lived experience of being directly impacted by a family member’s substance use disorder. All participants will be vetted before being accepted.
Program Requirements
To be eligible for the program you must:
- Have a minimum of 18 months of continuous personal, lived recovery experience or a family member of someone with a substance use disorder.
- Hold a high school diploma or GED
- Attend all weekday training sessions (78 hours)
- Be able to write a minimum 1,000-word essay describing personal experience with recovery and history of sustained recovery.
- Submit an application to the Pennsylvania Certification Board, payment of fee, and successful completion of the CRS exam.
- Sign an ethical code of conduct.
Technical Requirements
- Be comfortable with computers, computer applications and other technology.
- Be able to complete online homework (12 hours).
- Have access to a laptop or desktop device. Mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones cannot be used.
