Restored buildings and towns, national landmarks, and protected archeological sites continue to be the traditional symbols of historic preservation. However, today’s preservation movement has diversified to embrace a broader spectrum of the built environment and its effects on our way of life – past, present and future.
Understanding the man-made environment in the context of cultural influence has opened up new avenues of preservation study and practice. Economic revitalization of towns and neighborhoods, heritage tourism, growth management and historic landscape restoration are just a few examples of burgeoning preservation industries reflecting the new sensibility. The college has developed courses of study and training with this expanded view of historic preservation to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
The Bucks County Community College Historic Preservation Certificate Program serves architects, builders and construction, lawyers, engineers, artisans, conservationists, politicians, economists, activists, and ordinary citizens with an interest in preservation.
