- Upon recommendation of the instructor, this course is repeatable. Safe shop practices are emphasized. In addition to class studio time, students work five hours outside of class each week in the woodshop under the supervision of a Lab Assistant or at home.

- This studio course focuses on structural, functional, and sculptural properties of wood.

Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- exercise safe use of hand and power tools;
- identify vocabulary and woodworking trends associated with selected topic;
- apply woodworking knowledge and skills through various analyses and/or exercises; and
- construct a piece that incorporates course topic.

Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities
See course syllabus. Topics are selected by faculty and subject to change by semester.Each semester will cover the following:
- History of the topic
- Theory(s) within the topical field
- Methodology/approaches to the topic
- Application of topical concepts to practice

Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals
- Course learning goals are assessed with group critiques of all projects, based on successful design, execution, and completion of assigned woodworking projects.
- At least two individual critiques with instructor are held to assess projects, using the above criteria and to review student's overall progress.
- Instructor evaluation of tool and shop safety practices through observation and quizzes.
- Projects are assessed through critiques, oral presentations, and discussions.
