- Safe shop practices are emphasized. Four (4) hours of mandatory weekly lab work is assigned. This will occur in the studio area under the supervision of a Lab Assistant. There is a material supply cost for this course. Ownership of personal blowpipe is required.
- VI. Catalog Course Description
- Students are introduced to basic studio techniques of forming molten glass through the use of various tools, equipment, and processes. They are introduced to basic technical skills required for the production of glass objects, and to aesthetic sensitivity for the material. Studio procedures, including maintenance, safety, and construction are covered.

Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- employ the safety procedures necessary in glassblowing;
- utilize the techniques necessary to manipulate hot glass; and
- execute personal designs (a container, a bowl, and another vessel).

Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities
In the creation of glass pieces, students will explore:
- gathering, blocking, jacking, shaping, transfer, and finishing
- other techniques, such as threads, handles, and dip gathers and distortions
- safe practices in glass studio
- use appropriate vocabulary to evaluate and critique personal work and that of their peers

Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals
- Works are assessed through critiques, based on the successful conceptualization, design, execution, and completion of specific assignments.
- Individual meetings with instructor are held to assess students' overall progress, artistic growth, and safe practices.
- Additional evaluative tools may include one or more of the following: performance-based tasks, discussions, exercises, written assignments, research-based reports, presentations, online activities, quizzes and/or exams.
