- This course introduces students to the fundamentals of writing and critiquing scripts for various media. Students write, edit, and pitch original material. Students critique their own work and the work of other writers.

Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- write scripts for four basic functions of broadcast media: education, information, persuasion, and entertainment;
- research, concept, sequence, write, and edit both adaptations and original material;
- critique a variety of media writing; and
- create and produce a pitch for an original dramatic series.

Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities
- students carry out writing assignments adapted to the needs of radio, commercial, documentary, and news media in which students develop plots, time lines, and characters to deliver a message
- students read and discuss works that demonstrate various models of scriptwriting
- students critique student generated and professional work
- students write a short narrative script, a commercial campaign, a documentary script, and a pitch for an original dramatic series
- development of plots with ample detail, time line unity, and coherence

Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals
- Course learning goals are assessed with group critiques of all assignments, based on the successful design, execution, and completion of specific projects
- At least two individual critiques with the instructor are held each semester to assess projects, using the above criteria and to review students' overall progress
- Students' scripts are assessed for aesthetic and technical quality and progress
