- This course examines the policies and practices used by human resource management staff to build and maintain an effective work force. Topics include human resource planning, job analysis, recruitment, selection, performance appraisal, manpower development, compensation, and labor relations.

Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- define human resource management and the key functions as they relate to the human resource (HR) department and organizational goals;
- outline the phases of the human resources planning process and identify tools that can be used in this process;
- describe job design and job analysis, methods of recruitment, and government legislation that impact HR decisions;
- evaluate strategies for promoting and/or transferring employees, performance appraisal, and wage and salary packages;
- examine methods and concerns in determining an organization's training and development, sources of occupational safety, and health and strategies for improving them in the work environment; and
- analyze the concept of employee rights, unionized labor, its nature, structure, distribution, and effects on employees and employers.
