- Students use computers to learn the touch method of keyboarding and the basic features of Microsoft Word to produce letters, tables, reports and memos. Eligibility for exemption determined by Prior Learning Assessment (CREX Test).

Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- type on a keyboard at a minimum speed of 30 wpm on a five-minute straight copy timed writing with no more than one error per minute;
- apply proper formatting procedures and accurately key business and personal letters, tables, memos, bound and unbound reports, and bibliographies;
- demonstrate the ability to proof and edit all documents for proper hyphenation, capitalization, spelling, word usage and punctuation; and
- interpret proofreaders' marks properly using word processing software rough draft copy.

Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals
The assessment of course learning goals is based on:
- keying a 5-minute times writing with a minimum speed of 30 wpm with no more than one error per minute
- creating a properly formatted business letter, memorandum, report and table using Microsoft Word.
