Course Learning Goals
This course is designed to provide support for students who have accelerated to MATH095 or MATH103.
MATH095 Learning Goals:
The student will be able to:
- add, subtract, multiply, and divide signed numbers;
- simplify algebraic expressions by distributive property and combining like terms;
- solve first degree equations and inequalities including absolute value equations and inequalities, and solve relevant applications;
- add, subtract, multiply polynomials and divide polynomials;
- factor polynomials and solve quadratic equations; and
- graph linear equations and inequalities; solve systems of linear equations, and write equations of lines.
MATH103 Learning Goals
The student will be able to:
- factor polynomials by distributive property, reverse foil, grouping, the difference of squares, sum and difference of cubes.
- add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions, including synthetic division.
- perform operations with radical expressions, including rationalizing denominators of monomials and binomials and solve radical equations.
- solve quadratic equations by factoring, quadratic formula, and completing the square and relevant applications..
- graph quadratic, exponential, and logarithmic functions, describe the domain and range of a function, use function notation, and perform operations with functions including composition of functions.
- use properties of logarithms to compute common and natural logarithmic values and solve logarithmic and exponential equations and relevant applications

Individualized topics as determined by student's mathematics instructor, the student, and the instructor of this support class. -
Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals
The student will apply mathematical concepts and principles to identify and solve problems presented through informal assessment, such as oral communication among students and between teacher and students. Formal assessment will consist of open-ended questions reflecting theoretical and applied situations. -

Material is the same as the requirement for the student's 15 week mathematics course which includes a departmentally-selected textbook. Details on other materials provided by the instructor of each course section. See course syllabus. Student notebook is required and a calculator is optional.
