- This course provides the student with the relevant fundamental physical principles as well as the basic instrumentation used in diagnostic ultrasound. The modes of operation, imaging and display techniques that relate to high frequency sound production is discussed.

Students will:
- Define the basic principles of ultrasound physics;
- Identify the fundamentals of sound wave formation, propagation, attenuation, reflection and refraction;
- Explain the components of an ultrasound transducer;
- Explain the various types of ultrasound resolution; and
- Describe sound beams and their properties.
