- VI. Catalog Course Description
- This course introduces the BCCC Associate Degree Nursing curricular concepts with the three domains of health-illness-wellness professional nursing practice and the health care environment. Emphasis is placed on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential to each concept and their application to nursing roles in professional nursing practice.

Course Learning Goals
Upon completion of this course, the student will:
- Explain the BCCC conceptual framework and curriculum that provides a liberal arts and science base integrated in the study of nursing science;
- Discuss the components of the health-wellness-illness continuum and the role of the professional nurse;
- Identify the elements of evidence-based practice and the use of information and patient care technology;
- Define the professional roles of the nurse as provider of care, manager and coordinator of care, and member of the profession;
- Demonstrate the principles of effective communication;
- Explain the nursing process as the foundation of critical thinking skills and nursing judgment essential for safe, quality nursing practice with diverse populations;
- Apply quantitative reasoning through dosage calculation and other mathematical operations, assuring safe practice across the lifespan. [Quantitative Literacy]; and
- Discuss the values, ethics, and legal standards inherent in the practice of nursing.
