- This course introduces the medical laboratory technician student to the laboratory setting. Students gain an appreciation for the daily functions, safety regulations, and ethical standards of a professional laboratory technician. This course also includes hands-on laboratory experience in Phlebotomy, Urinalysis, and Analysis of Body Fluids.

Students will:
- evaluate how clinical laboratory data aids in the diagnosis and treatment of patients;
- identify and explain principles of safety in the clinical laboratory;
- operate, calibrate, and maintain standard laboratory instruments and equipment;
- perform Phlebotomy procedures; and
- perform analyses on urine and body fluids, correlating clinical features with typical findings.
