- This course takes a hands-on approach to the survey, documentation, and/or recording of historical resources.

Course Learning Goals
Upon completion of the course, successful students will be able to:
- Differentiate among the methodologies of various survey, documentation, and/or recording programs;
- Operate tools and technology effectively;
- Create field notes that conform to standard field practices; and
- Develop written, drawn, digital, photographic, and/or other relevant documentation that meets specified standards.

The following thematic topics will be incorporated into the course:
- Survey, documentation, and/or recording programs
- Requirements, regulations, and guidelines (including documentation standards of the Historic American Buildings Survey, Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines, and National Park Service bulletins)
- Research design
- Tools and technology
- Field/site safety
- Applied techniques in survey, documentation, and/or recording of historical resources
- Case studies
- Reporting results
