Students spend between six and nine hours per week outside of class in activities, such as reviewing vocabulary, reading, completing written exercises, writing compositions, working on pronunciation, preparing oral presentations, and working on other projects, which may include multimedia assignments.

- This course, conducted in French, continues from FREN250. It emphasizes greater proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students study more complex language structures, read, view, and discuss current French media, read more difficult literary texts, and critically examine Francophone cultures.

Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- further reinforce, refine, and expand mastery of the skills essential for communication, listening, reading, speaking, and writing [Arts/Humanities];
- understand and use more advanced grammar structures and more nuanced idiomatic expressions;
- demonstrate increased comprehension of authentic texts and be able to discuss them in French;
- narrate events in all three time frames (past, present, future);
- demonstrate the ability to write more cohesive paragraphs and compositions in French; and
- explain complex aspects of life in the French-speaking countries [Diversity].

Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- take quizzes and tests;
- complete assignments, such as readings and short compositions and grammatical exercises;
- demonstrate comprehension of authentic documents (both written and spoken) by answering questions orally and/or in writing;
- actively participate in class discussions in French; and
- participate in oral interviews and/or presentations that assess proficiency levels.
Quizzes and tests taken in class include the cultural topics presented in the course.
