- VI. Catalog Course Description
- This course provides the student with advanced practice of Classical Ballet. Instruction includes flexibility and other physiological benefits. Participation in barre, and center movement across the floor focusing on proper alignment at an advanced level. Classes concentrate on classical disciplines, alignment and core connection, physical strength and flexibility, and self-discipline.

Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- recognize and apply the terminology and techniques associated with Classical Ballet at an advanced level;
- demonstrate a personal movement aesthetic as it relates to advanced Classical Ballet;
- discuss topics from the required text as it relates to Classical Ballet;
- recognize the anatomy and placement of the body as it relates to Classical Ballet and its diversified techniques at an advanced level; and
- demonstrate performance as it relates to advanced Classical Ballet.

Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities
- Body placement and Classical Ballet principles at an advanced level.
- Proper Alignment, Barre work, and stretches that directly influence and relate to the study of advanced Classical Ballet.
- Barre, petite allegro, adagio, turns, and grande allegro directly related/embracing advanced Classical Ballet.
- Dance movement: focus, dimension, direction, level, control, execution and refined movement style.
- Discussion/reflection on the chosen text.

Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals
- Movement assessments: The semester consists of three movement assessments in addition to the midterm/final exams. These assessments focus on the culmination of 2-3 weeks' worth of movement ideas to demonstrate the students' knowledge and understanding of the current course work.
- Discussion topics: Reflections of the students are kept in a personal journal and presented in class bi-weekly.
