- VI. Catalog Course Description
- This course provides the student with development and practice in the principles of Modern and Ballet dance techniques. Emphasis is on active participation in center, movement across the floor, proper alignment, improvisation, and personal growth within performance techniques. As the dancer progresses more diverse methods are introduced to support the development of their creative style. (3 credits 6 studio hours)

Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- Perform dances using ballet techniques;
- Perform dances using modern techniques;
- Apply kinesthetic principles to enhance expressive dance; and
- Create movement studies as part of a small group.

Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities
- Body placement and technical dance fundamental principles.
- Body control, warm-ups, stretches and combinations that directly influence and relate to the study of Ballet and Modern dance.
- Recognize and apply the terminology and techniques associated with Classical Ballet and Modern Dance techniques;
- Dance movement: focus, dimension, direction, level, improvisation, and execution.
- Discussion/reflection on the chosen text.

Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals
Movement assessments: The semester consists of three movement assessments in addition to the midterm/final exams. These assessments focus on the culmination of 2-3 weeks' worth of movement ideas to demonstrate the students' knowledge and understanding of the current course work. -
