4.30 Employment Category Definition
The following terms and related definitions are used to describe approved employment categories for employees of Bucks County Community College. To the extent that other definitions and/or categories were used previously, those definitions and categories will no longer be in use.
Full Time Regular
Full Time Regular employees are regularly scheduled to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week on a continuous basis through the entire calendar or academic year. Full-time criteria for faculty are defined by the collective bargaining agreement in effect. Full-time employees may be eligible for College benefits, provided they meet specific plan eligibility requirements.
Part Time Regular
Part Time Regular employees are regularly scheduled to work between 20 and 28 hours per week on a continuous basis through the entire calendar or academic year. No part-time employee, including faculty, is permitted to work more than a calendar or academic year average of 28 hours per week in any assignment or in any combination of assignments. Part-time criteria for faculty are defined by the collective bargaining agreement in effect. Part-time employees may not be eligible for all College benefit programs offered.
Part Time Under 20
Part Time Under 20 (PTU20) employees are regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week on a continuous basis through the entire calendar or academic year. Temporary/Seasonal (formerly Per Diem)
Temporary/Seasonal employees are temporarily hired for a limited period of time not to exceed six (6) consecutive months or six (6) total months annually, usually during peak workloads, for vacation or leave of absence relief, or for specific short term programs (i.e. summer camps). Such workers may be on the College payroll or they may be hired through temporary staffing agencies.
These workers are notified of the temporary nature of their work assignments, although they may work a full or part-time schedule. There are no guarantees as to the length of assignment and temporary workers may be dismissed at any time. Temporary workers receive all legally mandated benefits but are not eligible for employee benefits. They are required to comply with all College policies governing employee conduct.
Externally Funded Positions
Grant-funded or other externally-funded employees may occupy positions in either Administrative or Classified job categories. Grant/externally funded employees receive all legally mandated benefits. Full or part-time grant/externally funder employees may be eligible for College benefits, consistent with those offered to College-funded employees in the same job category and FTE status, provided they meet specific plan eligibility requirements. Continued employment is continued upon external funding. In such positions, if continued funding is deemed insufficient in the sole judgment of the College, the position may be eliminated and the College will have no further obligation to the College.
Contract (Short Term) Position
Contract positions exist to fulfill very specific short term business model needs such as non-credit course instruction, special projects, temporary position coverage where specific skills and/or experience are required, or other short-term needs as defined by the College. Contracts must be reviewed and approved by the area Vice President and the Office of Human Resources prior to being presented to the employee. All terms and conditions will be outlined in the contract. Contract employees are through the Payroll Department of Bucks County Community College and receive all legally mandated benefits. Contract employees are required to comply with all College policies and rules governing employee conduct.
