4.31 Children on Campus
This policy is intended to provide a safe and effective learning environment for BCCC students and a disruption free work place for employees.
This policy applies to all college employees.
The presence of children at any College work location creates significant safety and liability considerations for the College, requires the attention of a caregiver, and diverts attention from academic or job performance. Thus, employees may not bring any child under the age of 16 with them to any Bucks County Community College campus or satellite work location when scheduled to work or be in class.
In the event of an unavoidable emergency situation, a supervisor can approve a temporary exception to this policy. The employee must contact his/her supervisor as soon as possible to discuss the situation and obtain permission to have the child accompany the employee while working. Consideration will not be given for a child who is ill to come to work with the employee.
Under no circumstances are employees to take responsibility for another employee’s child in the workplace, or should children on campus be left unattended by the caregiver.
If a child who has been permitted on campus with the parent/employee becomes disruptive, College management reserves the right to ask the parent/employee and child to leave.
At times, the College may host events or classes that specifically invite children of employees. Guidelines for each event will be communicated in advance. However, under no circumstances are children on campus to be left unattended at any time. During the employee’s non-work hours, a caregiver must accompany children under the age of 16 while on campus.
The learning environment of classrooms and labs will be free of distractions for students. Children must remain out of these areas at all times.
