Tenor Smitherman Brings Range from Opera to Pop to Bucks
Tenor moves freely between styles of Broadway, classical, and symphonic pops at Newtown Nov. 14.
Tenor John D. Smitherman brings his bold voice and virtuoso talent to Bucks County Community College at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, November 14.
Dubbed “the Mario Lanza of the century” by the Miami Herald, Smitherman moves freely between the styles of Broadway, opera, and symphonic pops. In addition to Lanza’s work, he’ll perform songs made famous by Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Tom Jones, and others, as well as tunes from Showboat, South Pacific, and Phantom of the Opera.
Smitherman was one of the original Three American Tenors and has sung for presidents, ambassadors, and royalty. Early in his career he was a back-up singer for Barry Manilow. Recordings include John D. Smitherman…Live Opera Passion and By Popular Demand. He’s also an actor who has performed well over 100 roles on both the professional opera and musical theater stages.
