Bucks Expands 'Green' Courses; Next Class Nov. 5
Several new courses are offered this fall, plus nearly a dozen online, on subjects ranging from solar energy to sustainability
As the need to conserve resources increases, Bucks County Community College has once again expanded its noncredit courses in “green” construction and technology.
Several new courses are offered this fall, including two on photovoltaic systems, which makes use of solar-powered electricity. Nearly a dozen new green-related courses are available online. In addition, the Sustainable Building Advisor Program is running for the fourth consecutive year.
Bucks is offering a one-day course that covers the National Electrical Code requirements for designing and installing photovoltaic systems. A basic knowledge of the NEC is required. The class meets Thursday, November 5 at the Lower Bucks Campus, 1304 Veterans Highway, Bristol. A discount is available for IEC members, educators, and building inspectors.
For professionals who can’t make it to class, a number of noncredit “green” courses are offered online. These include Fundamentals of Green Building Design and Construction, LEED for New Construction: Applying the Guidelines, and Building Green Buildings: The Contractor’s Perspective. Also available are Fundamentals of Solar Hot Water Heating, Green Building Sales Professional, Certified Indoor Air Quality Manager, and many more.
Meanwhile, the Sustainable Building Advisor Program, which began in September, teaches professionals “green” building techniques such as how to minimize energy costs and use materials wisely. The course, offered in nine two-day sessions over nine months, is specifically designed for design and construction professionals, tenant and developer representatives, project managers, resource conservation specialists and other building professionals. It prepares professionals to take the CSBA exam, which provides the nationally recognized Certified Sustainable Building Advisor designation.
